The construction of Tanzania's long-awaited Jangwani Bridge Project is slated to start in Dar es Salaam. This comes after the Tanzanian government inked a $35 million contract with a Chinese company to oversee the project's implementation.

The envisioned bridge project aims to alleviate the issues that are commonly encountered in the Jangwani area. Heavy rains are typically the cause of the problems. This generally results in the closure of the Morogoro Road, which is an important link to the city core. As a result, road users frequently face severe inconveniences.

This construction project is expected to take two years. China Communications Construction Company Ltd will carry out the work under the supervision of the Tanzania National Roads Agency (Tanroads).

According to Tanroads, the Jangwani Bridge project is a vital component of the Tanzanian government's aim to accelerate economic and social growth in Dar es Salaam. This will be accomplished by the improvement of road infrastructure, eventually enabling efficient transit in the region.

Speaking at the signing ceremony on October 22nd, Tanzania's Minister of Works, Innocent Bashungwa, stated the proposed bridge will span 390 meters and will be complemented by 700-meter-long connecting roadways.

According to the Minister, the Jangwani Bridge Project was created to alleviate flooding, which has been a major issue for both residents and commuters in the Jangwani area, particularly during the rainy season.

According to Tanroads' CEO, Mohamed Besta, CDR International BV of the Netherlands carried out both the feasibility study and the layout for the Jangwani Bridge project. The company also collaborated with Deltares of the Netherlands and Wema Consultants of Tanzania. The World Bank handed over the funding, which totaled $905,123.95.
