$46 Million Deal Signed for Crucial Isiolo-Mandera Road Construction Project

The Kenya National Highways Authority recently awarded the Chinese company a $46 million contract for the northeastern Isiolo-Mandera corridor project. This project is a component of the larger Horn of Africa Gateway Development Project (HoAGDP), which aims to boost economic growth in northeastern Kenya while strengthening regional connectivity.

The estimated 748-kilometer Isiolo-Mandera corridor connects Isiolo and Mandera via the counties of Meru, Wajir, Garissa, and Mandera. A key component of the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor, which aims to transform Isiolo into a resort city and promote regional trade, is this corridor.

Substantial funds has been obtained for the project, including a $750 million World Bank loan to upgrade the corridor to bitumen specifications. Lowering vehicle operating expenses, cutting down on travel time, and enhancing route security are the main targets. It is anticipated that improved infrastructure will make it easier for the region's almost three million citizens to facilitate trade and access social services.

An important turning point in Kenya's infrastructure development program has been reached with the signing of the $46 million agreement with Jiangxi Construction Engineering Group. Northeastern Kenya's socioeconomic landscape will likely be significantly transformed by the successful completion of the Isiolo-Mandera corridor project, which will foster regional integration and prosperity.
