Tanzania Government Set to Sign Agreement for Dodoma Stadium Construction
The Tanzanian government plans to sign a construction agreement for a new 32,000-seat sports stadium in Dodoma, the capital city. Palamagamba Kabudi, Minister of Information, Culture, Arts, and Sports, recently highlighted the development in Parliament while presenting to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Culture, and Sports' 2024 report.
According to the minister, the finalized contractor for the project will start construction shortly, and the stadium will play an important role in the country's sports growth by providing a modern facility for both national and international contests. He also stated that the stadium would have a substantial impact on sports tourism, employment creation, and local economic development.
"The development of this stadium is part of the government's larger aim to improve sports infrastructure throughout Tanzania.”It will help develop young talent and strengthen the country's position on the global sports stage," Kabudi stated. He went on to explain that investment in cutting-edge sports venues not only enhances athletic performance but also stimulates economic growth.
In a similar event, the government has been encouraged to finish renovations at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium by April 2025. Husna Sekiboko, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Culture, Arts, and Sports, appealed for the reconstruction to be completed on time during the presentation of the committee's report.
"The government must ensure that the renovations are completed by April 2025." A specific management body should be formed to oversee the upkeep of Benjamin Mkapa and other state-owned stadiums, ensuring that they satisfy international standards," Sekiboko remarked.
The committee also advised that a percentage of stadium funds be set aside for repairs, allowing for speedy repairs when necessary. Sekiboko suggested the formulation of a strategy to improve other sporting facilities in order to relieve demand on Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.
